Is it a chamber ensemble or a world music band? Medieval or Modern? The answer is YES! It is all of those things.
The instrumentation consists of acoustic instruments of any kind, from orchestral favorites like cello and oboe to folk and ethnic instruments that include hurdy gurdy, Irish whistle and didgeridoo. Throw in some classical guitar, voice and rocks (yes, rocks!), and you get a rough idea of our sound.
As for repertoire, Compass Rose explores medieval and renaissance music as well as world ethnic music, original compositions by ensemble members and contemporary composers like Arvo Pärt. Expect to hear a satisfying blend of Balkan vocal trios and renaissance dance tunes mixed in with larger chamber works.
